Film Poster Inspiration

On the left is the recent James Bond film's poster for Skyfall . On the right is mine and Alex's film poster for our film Bankroll . The reason i have compared these two are for a variety of reasons for example as you can see the iconic picture of the London Bridge behind the heroic pictures it is iconic and relates to our audience because every one knows what it is and feels a sense of entitlement to it and then start to relate to the character .  In contrast compared to the James Bond poster we have used a silhouette in ours we have done this to make the poster more mysterious . By doing this we involve barthes enigma code and get the audience asking the questions such as who is the mysterious person and what role will he have to play within the film  . We have also secluded the writing on the right hand side because is always where the audience's eyes finishes

Magazine Inspiration

On the right is mine and Alex's film magazine cover and on the left is a previous issue of Empire which is endorsing the film Public Enemy. The reason I have put this up is to show where we have got the inspiration for our magazine from. for example as you may see in the public enemy poster they have used the smoke effect in the bottom left and we have taken that into consideration in our magazine cover . The smoke effect is effective because it adds the effect that the hero is in his personal film and connects the readers to the film and makes them feel like they are part of it . We have also used the effect of the gun in the picture . This is good because it shows to the audience that this person means business and without even seeing the film you are able to get a grasp for the character's persona and also get an idea for the genre of the film.

Another thing that we have taken inspiration from the magazine is the way we have put subheadings within the magazine for example the way we have included our special features such as Hugh Jackman back in action we have included our own subheadings but taken inspiration from the original . We have also taken a conventional method for the design of our cover we have included our slogan of our most explosive issue ever. We also have positioned Alex over the P in EMPIRE to show the bond between the character and the magazine .

Evaluation Task 3

This is our evaulation activity 3 which includes our audience feedback, we asked the group questions about our production. the questions asked were:
  1. How have they ahered to coventions of the genre?
  2. What did you think was effective about camera composition and what could have been improved on?
  3. What do you think was effective about the editing and use of titles and what could have been improved on?
  4. What do you think about the narrative structure of the trailer?
  5. Do you think this trailer was conventional?

This is a video of our audience feedback sheet in which our class was asked various questions in which they gave positive and negative feedback on our film . Most of our feedback was very positive and everyone agreed that they thought our timing speed and overall film was good some of the improvements that was mentioned and that we have taken on board is our fight scenes and how we can make them so much slicker and grab the real effects of the fights we also needed to improve the length of our fades from black and white . After taking this into consideration me and alex have decided to refilm our fight scenes so that we can achiever a better film.

We felt that this was a productive task as you get a feel for what your audience will see and how they react to the trailer we also see there reactions which means we can edit clips to match it to the response given by our audience .

Evaluation Task

These are pictures of me and alex filming on the 30th of January as you can see me and alex are holding the DV1 camera that we have been using throughout our filming . Me and alex are also using our tripod and we have also shown some of our location that we shot in . It is a muddy path where we filmed the scene in which me and alex run over the puddle. We have used the tripod to shoot various shots such as the long shot and the close up shot in which we have needed the tripod to shoot scenes in which me and Alex are both in for example the fight scenes in which we have to both be in it . We have used a lot of software to make the film for example we have used photoshop to crop our film poster and front magazine cover this is an effective tool as it allows us to use a sillouette of alexs body this is effective as it shows the mystery of the character and keeps teh audienceguessing about him this opens up the barthes enigma code to make the audience ask questions on who this man is and what role he will play.

This is the software we have started using for our editing which obviously brings me onto the point that me and alex have started to edit our film after spending two days filming our final peice. Adobe Premier Elements is a useful resoursce because it allows us to edit and upload our film. We have also used adobe premier elements to use fade and black and white screenshots within our trailer this is effective because it allows the trailer to flow from clip to clip . We also use the tool that allows us to cut pictures which we have used in our trailer . We also used adobe premier elements to trim and cut clips by doing this on adobe it allows us to get finer clips and also allows us to use black and white to differ from the clips. We also used adobe photoshop to crop photos so that we could get alexs body to be alone with the gun by doing this we had to use a pointing tool that withdrew alexs body from the original background which was his back garden so we got rid of that and put a concete background on it .

These are the three pieces of equipment that we used during our project. We used a DV1 shock proof camera and a tripod to film the scenes. In the scene we used the computer to access photoshop in which we transported photos from premier elements onto blogger. We also used adobe premier elements to access our film and to edit and render our film. We used mindjet manager pro 6 to assist us with some of our planning and research and to help with our evaluation activities to show what our audience liked within our film. We have a used other technology such as the i phone to introduce commentary's over the film. We used adobe software such as premiere elements and photoshop to edit and make the core of the film. Photoshop was used for most of our evaluation activities and to produce our title sequences.

We have also used network's such as youtube so that we could put our film onto the Internet. Blogger is a big part of how we were able to do our evaluation tasks. We used it to post the evaluation tasks and relevant comments on blogger. Adobe Premier was an easy software to use initially ,the editing and initial set up of the film was easy to put on to blogger. I personally found it more difficult when I had to put sound onto the film and thankfully I had a reliable and trustworthy group who could help me with that specific part of the software

I will now talk more about the film camera that we used. It is a DV1 waterproof and shockproof camera with built in usb. This allowed us to process the film onto the computer which were then put into premier elements. It was then ready for editing and rendering. The camera we had was a HDMI camera which means that it was easily accessible to upload and render our copies of our film. The camera gives the film the real look and makes everyone feel like the film has an authentic look to it.

Another really interesting tool we have used is using Alex's Ipad to use an app called Action Movie FX and by using this we can film a road or a corner of a street in which we can place two cars and make them crash this is really effective especially for our film because we need to have explosions and high speed chases within our film to show the film in an action and explosive light .These things really darw the audience in and get them excited for the trailer and make them want to watch the film . Another way this is effective is in relating this to the Barthes Enigma Code as it asks the question who is in those cars and what is driving them to such lengths that relates into a crash .

Evaluation Targets

Firstly, you need to upload your productions! Make sure you are explaining in detail what it was you actually did in the editing process using technical terminology and explore in detail how your production pieces compliment each other. Make sure you are being as analytical as possible and explore camera angles, mise en scene, sound and editing in as much detail as possible.
